Day 1 of the Hampta Pass Trek starts with a drive from Manali to Jobra, which is located at an altitude of 2,950 meters above sea level. Jobra is the starting point of the trek and is about a 2-hour drive from Manali.

After reaching Jobra, you will begin your trek through the lush green forests of the Kullu Valley, which is known for its beautiful scenery and wildlife. The trail follows the course of the Beas River, and you will get to cross the river on a wooden bridge.

The trek from Jobra to Chikka, which is the first campsite of the trek, is a gradual ascent and takes around 2-3 hours to complete. The trail is well-defined, and you will come across several waterfalls and streams along the way.

Chikka is a beautiful campsite located in a meadow surrounded by mountains. You can take a rest, explore the surroundings, and acclimatize to the altitude. The campsite has basic facilities like toilets and tents for accommodation.

The first day of the trek is relatively easy, and it is recommended to take it slow and enjoy the scenery. You should stay hydrated and carry enough water with you. It is also advisable to wear comfortable trekking shoes and carry warm clothes as the temperature can drop significantly at night.

At night, you will have dinner at the campsite and sleep in tents under the stars. The sound of the Beas River and the beautiful scenery will make for a peaceful and refreshing night's sleep.

After reaching Chatru, we will drive to the stunning high-altitude lake Chandratal, situated at an elevation of approximately 4,300 meters, and return to Chatru for an overnight stay.

The trek from Sehagoru to Chatru involves navigating through loose rocks, glacial streams, and barren Spiti terrain, requiring careful footing and balance. It usually takes around 5–6 hours to complete this stretch, depending on pace and trail conditions. As you make your way down, the scenery transforms dramatically—from snow-covered slopes to the raw, arid beauty of the Spiti Valley, with its towering cliffs and stark landscape.

Reaching Chatru marks the end of the trekking leg and the beginning of the thrilling drive to Chandratal, also known as the Moon Lake. The road journey is adventurous, with narrow mountain roads and river crossings, offering magnificent views along the way. On reaching Chandratal, you’ll witness one of the most enchanting sights in the Himalayas—a crescent-shaped lake surrounded by towering peaks, its crystal-clear waters reflecting the changing hues of the sky.

After spending some time soaking in the serene atmosphere and capturing memories at the lake, you’ll drive back to Chatru, which serves as the campsite for the night. Tents and basic facilities are available here, offering a much-needed rest after a long day.

Throughout this memorable day, remember to stay hydrated and carry some snacks for energy. Dress in warm layers, especially for the evening visit to Chandratal, where temperatures can drop significantly. As the day comes to an end, enjoy a hearty dinner at the Chatru campsite, surrounded by the raw and rugged charm of the Spiti region. Let the peaceful night skies and towering mountains remind you of the incredible journey you’ve completed.

This marks the end of an adventurous and memorable trek through the majestic Himalayas.

The road journey from Chatru to Manali typically takes around 4–5 hours, depending on weather and road conditions. As you leave behind the barren beauty of Spiti and Lahaul, the scenery gradually transitions into the lush green valleys of Kullu. During the drive, you’ll pass through the famous Rohtang Pass (subject to weather and permissions), where you can witness panoramic views of snow-capped peaks and mist-covered valleys. The landscape is a photographer’s dream and offers a final glimpse of the Himalayas in all their grandeur.
